Mark has been
studying city land section (quadrant) corner markers
used for surveying purposes. There is one
at the intersection of Milwaukee Ave. and Ellingson
Ave. Some of these markers are small posts
that designate the latitude and longitude and
sometimes elevation. They have a significant
historical status, also. Mark will give those on the park
board the URL statistics so they can find the nearest
corner section marker to where they live.

Early Mail Delivery in Pacific: In the early 1900s,
the mail was delivered by steamboats in Puget Sound
and then transferred overland by horseback. Later it
was delivered by rail car then and carried from the
rail mail stop to the local post office. This
location is not known, but a Postal Museum is
available at the Tacoma City Library for further
research.

Mark would like to gather
more info for those needing help doing so with their
assigned topics. At the next Park Board Meeting
this can be discussed and reassigning
tasks. More info from the State Archives
can be acquired and put on our web site.
More names of early settlers in our town was a
suggested factor.
A reboot of our
goal is a big item for our next meeting.
Paula said that Jim Morgan will be at the next
Park Meeting on January 16th and since he is the one
who sowed the seed for this project, we ought to
check to see if we are following the correct path.
